Chena Hot Springs Resort:

1990-Present

Overview: Chena Hot Springs Resort, located 60 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska, is a leader in using geothermal energy to power, heat, and sustain its operations. The resort has become a model for sustainability, showing how geothermal resources can be used to support power, food production, and tourism in an eco-friendly way.

The resort is not just a tourist destination—it’s a symbol of innovation and sustainability in energy use. The efforts of Bernie and Connie Karl have shown that geothermal energy is a reliable and economic tool for meeting the energy needs of remote communities that otherwise would not be possible.
